Summer in the city might be winding down, and now is the time when Victoria starts to wind down with it, but not before a bustling, busy fall to get us prepared for winter’s comforts. Brewery tours, local markets, high tea and Christmas galore, we have everything you need to really enjoy the neighbourhood and beyond. Get photos with Santa, explore beautiful light displays, outdoor skating, the possibilities really are endless and the area continues to grow and expand every week!

Where is Midtown? The Neighbourhood Perimeters

Whether you call it Midtown, or Burnside, or Mayfair, you already know the neighbourhood by now, and it’s one of the fastest growing areas in the city! Spanning from the edge of Vic West, and encompasses the Hillside/Quadra areas as well as the beautiful Gorge, and containing some of the city’s best and brightest attractions, shopping malls, parks, cafes and hidden gems, all accessible by bus, bike or on foot. In the summer, we have live music at many local parks, the spring brings flowers blooming and the world opening back up, it is a year round place to call home.

Our Favourite Local Midtown Activities This Fall

We might be losing daylight but we are not short on activities to keep us busy as we wind down from a crazy summer. Why not take advantage of what little nice weather we have left and do a tour of Midtown’s extensive breweries! Hoyne Brewing, Moon Under Water, Spinnakers and more await you, all featuring locally made beers, ciders, and cocktails along with pairings that will leave you stuffed and happy!  Perhaps you’d like to stay inside and check out the Hudson Public Market featuring farm fresh groceries, coffee and teas, fresh seafood and so much more. Why not top things off with afternoon high tea at Abkhazi Gardens, with a selection of loose leaf teas and finger food, sure to make you feel fancy in your own city.

Upcoming Winter Events in Midtown

Winter is a time to appreciate all that we have, and make memories that will last a lifetime, and what better way to start the season off than at Roast Sandwich Shop in the Hudson Market, where they are holding the annual Tinseltown Christmas Speakeasy! Celebrate the holidays with food, drinks and friends in a gorgeous venue. Or for a family outing, the Christmas Fundraiser to benefit St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, featuring a performance by Ballet Victoria, refreshments and a vintage jewelry sale, all for a good cause. Who could forget the annual Quadra Village Holiday Craft Fair. Free hot chocolate, hot apple cider and popcorn, tons of local artisans, and holiday cheer abound are waiting for you, come see why it’s a must see. Get your photos with Santa at Mayfair, bring the whole family and get your Christmas cards out of the way early!

Benefits of Living in Midtown

You have the best the city has to offer within a couple of minutes! Brunch spots like The Ruby and Spoons Diner, or locally sourced burgers and fries at Bin 4 Burger Lounge. Walking distance from Mayfair Mall, one of the largest shopping centres in the area, Lifestyle Market for your grocery needs, and plenty of liquor stores and breweries nearby. Not to mention the host of fitness studios, a bouldering wall, martial arts centres and more for those of us who like to keep active. Honestly the biggest benefit we can find is the range of nature parks and reserves, Cecilia Ravine has an outdoor bike park along with walking trails, Topaz Park boasts things like the Highland Games, and many outdoor sports teams playing games in the warmer months. For those on the other side of the bridge, why not check out Banfield Park for a family day out.
